When it comes to fitness of course.
Everyone has an inborn capacity to easily perform different types of work, in terms of exercise.
Sme people are born with the ability to demonstrtae enormous physical strength (anaerobic fitness).
Some people are born wit the capacity to easily run long distances(aerobic fitness)
Scientists have discovered that everyone's body is born with a certain number of a certain type of muscle fibers called Slow twich and Fast Twitch fibers.
Slow twitch fibers are capable of long periods of contraction, so they are designed for endurance.
Fast twitch fibers are designed to contract quickly, allowing you to generate power quickly, hence the name. They are designed for power.
Even though this information by itself is FASCINATING, there's something even more incredible in regards to the above:
You have the ability to condition your muscles to be either fast twitch(power) or slow twitch(endurance).
Before we go into more detail with this, I want you to ask yourself a very important question:
Which do YOU find easier to perform: Pushups or Running?
Really think about that question and Pay Close attention to the answer that comes up.
Which activities are easier for you to do?
Chances are that the activities you find easiest are indicative of the types of muscle fibers that your body may consist of predominantly. In other words...
You may have more Fast Twitch/Slow Twitch muscle fibers.
As an interesting aside, Russian and Scandinavian Scientists have analyzed the ratio of fast twithc fibers and slow twicth fibers in muscle samples from young potential athletes to determine the types of sports in which they are predisposed to succeed. If there are more fast twitch fibers, they are guided to train for short "burst of energy" events like sprinting.
If they have more slow twitch fibers, they train for endurance activities like the 5,000 meter dash. As a result of these analysis techniques, many youuths have been guided into sports in which they indeed become world class athletes.
I've never had a muscle sample test done on myself, but I imagine it to be painful, as I can't see any other way to get a sample of your muscle tissue besidees cutting it out.
Now...
You may be asking yourself:
"What does all this nonsense about fast twitch and slow twitch fibers have to do with staying in shape?"
Well...
Think about it for a a moment.....
Doesn't it make sense that you want to do the activities that you find EASY and NATURAL to stay fit and healthy?
Unless you are an competitive athlete or training for a marathon, then I can see no reason to condition your muscles to be fast twitch or slow twitch.
If you agree or disagree with me, then leave a comment and let me know.
In short....
Do what you love and health and vitality will follow:)
Sincerely,
Amir Campbell

"Why won't they Believe me!!!!!!!"
When I tell people that I'm Certifed Personal Trainer, the most common response is this:
"You don't even look like a Personal Trainer. You're so small..."
At first, I was a little insulted. It also got me thinking as to why my size matters when people here what I do.
The first thing that came to mind was MEDIA. When people hear those words, Personal Trainer, they AUTOMATICALLY think of some big, buff guy who can lift a mountain and run 900 miles in a minute.
That's fine. But here's the thing....
Everyone has their own FITNESS GOALS and they train their body in the best way to meet those goals.
My concern isn't how big my muscles are. My main concern is that they will allow me to perform the ACTIVITIES that I LIKE doing, as long as I like doing them. When I really stop and think about it, there's only ONE activity that I want to repeat over and over and over and repeatedly.
My main concern is that i'm able to move easily and quickly. I don't want to carry around anything that i don't need to carry. Many people fail to REALIZE that Muscle weights more than Fat.
You can be 190 pounds, consisting of mainly lean tissue, or...
You can BE 190 pounds, consisting mainly of fat.
A person can be overweight and have lots of muscle.
Overweight is overweight.
Some people love lifting weights and building more muscle, and if that THEIR fitness goal, then that's fine.
The question I ask them is this:
Why do you think it's important to build more muscle?
The answers vary. Of course they will, because people vary.
I train for endurance, because i'm a mover, and i like being able to move around freely and change direction as I please. I'm at a comfortable weight for me and my strength is awesome. That's my only concern.
Now...
What's the point of this "rant"?
The point is that I believe that a person must choose Fitness Goals that will alow them to live life they wan to live it.
Are you very active right now? Then make your fitness goal compliment your current lifestyle.
My own fitness goals take into consideration the tpe of man I want to be when I'm a bit older ad more experienced:
I want to be active and fit.
I want my joints be in perfect working order.
I want to be flexible and STRONG.
I want lots of stamina and energy.
My current workout routine is designed to help me establish those habits and behaviors that I'll need to achieve my outcomes.
Wha Kind of Man/woman do you want to be when you're a little bit older? What types of htings do you want to be doing?
Really STOP and think about That...
Think about the long terms...
Just act as if you're going to live a long and productive life.
What kinds of things do you want to be doing?
In my opinion, A fitness goal should involve more detail than "want to lose 10 pounds in 2 months"...
Sincerely,
Amir Campbell

Treadmill Vs. Outdoors
If you're on the East Coast, Like Me, then you're all excited because pretty soon you'll LITERALLY be up to your ass in snow and ice. Yay!!!
If you're on the West Coast: Enjoy your paradise like weather and hot chicks running on the beach ALL YEAR LONG.... Suckers... lol
Anyway...
If you're a avid walker or runner, then you may have your preferencesi n regards to the venue you choose to do these respective events.
In other words...
You either enjoy running indoors (treadmill, indoor track) or outdoors ( forests, trails) and that's perfectly fine. We're all different and we like what we like, right?
I've never been much of an indoor runner so naturally, I prefer to be outdoors where i can experience life and the things going around me. I find that running or walking outdoors trains me to be alert and be aware. When you're jogging in the woods and you don't know what the hell might be around that bend, you AUTOMATICALLY slow down a bit... and you prepare to move your body in accordance to what you come across.
You either stop completely( to prevent yourself from running into that woman walking her baby( been there, done that) or you speed when you look and see that nobody is there.
I've run on tracks before and for me it's absolutely boring. You're running in a circle and it becomes easy to Fall Into a Trance, because you don't have to worry too much about runing into weird objects or people. You relax a little...
However...
I find that even running in the great, wide open, you can easily allow yourself to fall into a trance.... because there are stretches of space in which you are going straight ahead with no twists...no turns...
When I'm on a BOORRRIIINNNGGG stretch like that, it EASY for my mind to wander to conversations of yesterday and fond memories ( Sweet, Sweet R, where for art thou... Call me...) and conversations that I plan on having with people, and the possibilities I have yet to explore.
How do you remedy this type of running situation?
If you have A MP3 player, then bring it along. Put loads of songs that get ypu energized and pumped on it. You can even put some self improvement tracks on your mp3 player so that as you run, you can learn a little bit.
If you're one of those people that likes to run to clear your mind, let me share this little bit of knowledge i've learned in my LONG 27 years of life here on this planet:
You can Clear Your Mind all you want, but your mind, which is sort of like a cup or some sort of vessel, will be filled again....
The question is:
What do YOU want to fill your mind with?
Choose wisely.
Now...
Which type of environment is THE BEST for your running and walking activities?
They both have their Pros and Cons, and The only way to find the type of environs that work for YOU is to EXPERIMENT.
However...
Keep in mind that Both types of settings havet heir advantages, and depending on your current emotional state, you will choose which venue FEELS RIGHT to you.
Just listen to your body and act on what you FEEL.
Thanks for listening and you're going to want to stay tuned because there's more where that came from.
Sincerely,
Amir

Are you looking for ways to stay fit during the winter months?
Autumn is here, followed closely by winter time:)
While summertime is the summertime for most people...
Winter is my summertime:)
I noticed that everyone isn't like me however....
Winter is that time of year where for some reason, probably due to the shorter days and longer nights, people just want to SLEEP.
And eat really good food:)
That's cool, because that's my full time occupation in the winter...:)
Do you remember what it was like when you were a kid and you loved being otuside in the winter?
Have you ever played football in the wintertime? It's the time of year where you can really POP the @#@^ out of someone and not care where they land, because they land in snow, of the clean white stuff... or the @#$@ piss yellow variety:)
I remember when my friends and i would bundle up and stay out side as long as possible...
We built snow forts and we actually camped out inside them.
Can you rememebr the things you used to do with YOUR friends when the snow covered the ground and looked like it fell upwards?
When's the last time you squatted down and grabbed a hand full of cold, soft snow, formed it into a ball and let your friend's have it?
This winter, consider acting like a kid and get outside for a bit.
Jump around in the snow.
Go sledding with some freinds and family.
Go for a short walk around your neighborhood.
Walk your dog in the snow and noice how much fun they have outside..
Speaking of dogs...
Have you ever noticed how much fun they seem to have playing in the snow?
What would it be like if you could have THAT MUCH FUN being outside in the winter?
Remember, just because it's winter that doesn;t mean that there aren;t daylight hours. The sun might be covered by the thick, snow clouds, however...
Always remember...
It's still there, shining as brightly as ever.
Even if you can't see the sun...
Just act AS IF it's right there.
If you usually use a snowblower, talk to your doctor and see how he/she feels about you shoveling a little bit.
Remember....
Before any physical activity, you need to warm up properly to get the blood pumping through your muscles and extremities( all of them:)
Have fun this winter:)
