I just realized something Incredibly important....

I just realized how much people tend to "throw" their expectations for others onto people.

I've done it.

It's okay to recognize and become aware that a person has potential in them to do great and important things.

It's a totally different thing to limit that potential by saying " You should be a "this" or "that".

Many people don't realize it, but our expectations of people can have very real impact on them.

It's been demonstrated in scientific studies that prayer does have an impact on the rate of healing of patients who are in recovery.

When you stop and think about it, A prayer has an expectation for something that we want to happen or experience, right?

So in a way, you can easily say our expectations are like prayers...

So, when you look at it even closer, you'll see what i'm getting at...

Our expectations for people can be like prayers for them.

But what happens when what we want for a person isn't what a person wants for themselves?

Well, to help you understand what I'm saying:

Imagine that you want a certain food to eat right now. You're getting hungrier and hungrier by the moment, and all you can think about is you favorite dish...

You can smell it.

You can literally taste. In fact, you're starting to drool just thinking about your favorite dish.

You can even see a picture of it in front of you Right now...

Imagine someone is telling you that they want you to eat another dish. It might be something you love, or something you absolutely hate.

The important thing to realize is this:

What is it that YOU want?

Let's broaden our perspective a bit and focus on the OTHER person:

What do HE/SHE want?

Can you see the point i'm getting at right now?

Our expectations on people can create a sort of internal tension/pressure on the one we have expectations for.

Moral of this blog: Find out what they want, and provide them with support in any way you can to help them achieve their potential.
